I’m marching in the Tamworth Melanoma March to raise funds for ongoing research by the Melanoma Institute of Australia contributing to the national goal of zero deaths from melanoma. Spreading the sun safe message and raising awareness of the impact melanoma can have in your life is also vitally important.
My husband is a Stage 4 Melanoma survivor. At the time of his terminal diagnosis in 2014, the average life expectancy for Stage 4 melanoma patients was only 18 months. His life was extended by his participation in an immunotherapy clinical trial sponsored by the Melanoma Institute Australia. Fortunately, he responded to the immunotherapy treatment whereas others on the same clinical trial did not. He has now achieved the milestone of ten years post Stage 4 diagnosis and has progressed to 12monthly checkups, something which did not seem possible at the start of his melanoma journey. Our family is forever grateful for the team at the Melanoma Institute Australia for their life saving research and ongoing care.
However, further research is desperately needed to reach the goal of zero deaths from melanoma. Click 'Donate Now' to make a secure online donation.
